Question: “Skincare product for acne”

Hi Mads,

I’m 30 years old and find myself in the unfortunate situation that I’ve started to have really bad acne in the form of many and sometimes really big blackheads on my face, my chest and my back. This has started when I stopped taking birth control pills in the late summer of 2009.

In addition to that, my scalp has started to be really greasy, which means that I can remove a lot of tallow daily and it smells really bad sometimes.

So far, I haven’t had a lot of acne – mostly blackheads around my nose and sometimes a few on my chest.

I’m afraid that my skin will look really bad eventually, because I can already begin to see changes in pigmentation both on my face, my chest and my back.

I’ve tried different skincare products, lately daily cleansing and care with products from Anne Börlind, but I don’t feel the products are effective enough and I want to change them.

Sometimes, I get treatments with fruit acid. Can you recommend a skincare line? Preferably one without hormone disrupting ingredients and parabens.

Also, I’m considering contacting my doctor to start clindoxyl treatment. What do you think about that?

Br,
Marie

Answer to: “Skincare product for acne”

Hi Marie,

Great to receive your question, which I look forward to answering.

First of all, I’m sorry to hear about your skin condition with acne and blemishes, but I have to tell you that you can suffer from acne at any age.

Hormones means a lot when it comes to acne and a lot of women find that they can control it with birth control pills. On the other hand, some experience acne breakouts when they stop taking birth control pills.

I would recommend you not to worry about the condition of your skin in the future. That is in the future and you live right now. And I want to tell you that if you start treating your skin now, it can change for the better.

From how you describe your skin with acne, blackheads, greasiness and changes in pigmentation, I would definitely recommend you to choose products that are mild for your skin and does not contain irritating ingredients that can even make your skin disorder worse.

Also, you should look for products that contain either AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid), the latter being the best choice (there are some people who cannot tolerate it, which is why I mention AHA too). These ingredients will boost the cell renewal in your skin, which will also help with the changes in pigmentation.

In conclusion, you should use a crème containing sunscreen during the day. Make sure that it protects against both UVB rays (SPF scale) and UVA (UVA protection must be written on the product).

Please do not be afraid of parabens. If you choose the correct parabens for the use of preservatives in skincare products, they are actually better for your skin than natural preservatives. At the same time, “dangerous” parabens are overrated, I tell more about that in this article – click here.

Clindoxyl is a fine product for treating acne. But you have to have real acne (papules/pustules) and not just blackheads. And make sure to use a crème as describes above in addition on top of the Clindoxyl.

I would recommend you to read my cure for acne, which is my simple, step-by-step programme for curing acne and blemishes, where you will receive:

  • Documented knowledge written in a language that is easy to understand
  • An easy step-by-step guide
  • Video guides, where I will tell you and show you how to do the different steps
  • A list of products so you can see, which products you can use to treat your skin

See my cure for acne here.

Regarding your greasy scalp, try changing your hair products to something less irritating. Both shampoo and also conditioner/styling products.

I send you my best wishes for a happy future!
