Question: โ€œDoes dairy products cause more pimples?โ€

HI Mads

I have a lot of pimples. Maybe I actually have acne – I do not know, but it’s tremendously frustrating to have a whole face full of big yellow pimples and many impurities.

My mother read somewhere that milk gives pimples. Is it true?

Is milk causing pimples? And does it apply to all types of dairy products?

I hope you can help! It would be great if it could reduce my pimples and blemishes if I stopped drinking milk.

Maybe you would also like to talk about other foods that cause acne? Does pizza cause pimples? I do not eat much candy and I never drink soda, but does it really cause pimples? Or is there something else that gives pimples?

I am looking forward to hearing from you :-)

Best regards
Katrine

Answer to: โ€œDoes dairy products cause more pimples?โ€

Hi Katrine

Thanks for the question! Iโ€™m so sorry to hear that you are plagued by pimples and acne! Really!

I myself fought a lot with acne, so I know exactly how it is to walk around with pimples all over your face! It was because of my great frustration with pimples โ€“ plus that nothing seemed to work for me โ€“ that created my interest in treating pimples.

In everything Iโ€™ve read about the treatment of pimples and the hundreds of research that I have studied, much points towards the fact that milk cause pimples.

So when your mother read that milk causes acne, she was actually right. There are actually a lot of people โ€“ I am thinking particularly of doctors and researchers โ€“ who have long thought that milk and other dairy products can cause pimples.

It is actually a thought, dating back to the time as early as the 1800s. Already at the beginning of the 1800s it was believed that the diet was important for acne, pimples and acne.

It is then subsequently also been demonstrated countless of times that a healthy diet has positive effects on our skin โ€“ and including that a healthy diet is very important on how easily we get rid of pimples, acne and blemishes.

Back in the 1800s it was thought that especially chocolate, sugar and fat were the major culprits. In the 1960s, however people began doing actual research into the impact of diet on acne. At that time โ€“ thankfully I just say โ€“ it was quickly proven that sugar and chocolate and fat does not cause pimples.

Further research showed, however โ€“ and this is unfortunately negative โ€“ sugar, sweets and fatty foods unfortunately, can help to aggravate pimples, acne and blemishes. So even sugar, sweets, crisps and cola does not exactly give pimples, but it can all aggravate acne, oily skin and blemishes โ€“ if you already have pimples.

However, it is very individual. The point is, however, that we must always make sure to eat a healthy and varied diet โ€“ and minimize sugar, candy, sodas and similar foods with much sugar as it can cause an aggravation of acne.

In fact, we have to fast forward the time to the year 2005 before any food was proven to have a direct cause on pimples and acne.

You might have guessed that it is milk that is causing pimples and acne.

In 2005 one of the greatest food surveys on a single food was done. It was Harvard University in the US who did the study and showed a direct correlation between drinking milk and developing acne, pimples and blemishes.

Maybe you do not know Harvard University โ€“ perhaps youโ€™ve heard of it. It has often been featured in many films and is a very prestigious university. Maybe even one of the worldโ€™s most renowned universities, which I say to substantiate the factual research and its results.

The number of participant also says quite a lot about how great a research study it was. It was 47,355 who attended in the study.

The result of the study showed a correlation between the reported intake of milk and the occurrence of acne.

The trend showed that those who drank more than three glasses of milk a day had an increased risk of skin problems. It was also found that those who drank skimmed milk instead of other types of milk were more likely to develop acne. This result was surprising because the fat content of milk is indeed low.

TIP: Skimmed milk is possibly worse than other types of milk.

The reason is therefore not the fat in the milk, but more accurately that the components of milk increases insulin levels in the blood, which in turn increases the production of hormones, which then leads to an increased sebum production.

And pimples consists precisely of dead skin cells and skin oil (sebum). In other words, the cause of pimples, acne and blemishes in general described as the sebaceous glands in the skin increases the production of sebum, and when the production of sebum gets bigger, the skin pores has increased risk of being blocked. This allows inflammation which results in pimples, acne, whiteheads, blackheads and blemishes.

For the first time in 2005 it was thus demonstrated that a food โ€“ milk โ€“ is the direct cause of pimples, acne and blemishes. Just as research results indicate that milk and dairy products are the cause of deterioration of pimples and acne.

Until 2005, no other food has been the cause of pimples, but only managed to contribute to the worsening of acne.

Research results from Harvard University are all pretty groundbreaking and demonstrates that milk may be the cause of development and exacerbation of pimples, acne and blemishes.

My advice is that you shouldย listen to your mother. There is definitely something about what she has read :-)

Personally, I recommend always to avoid milk, just based on this research result. And perhaps even more in the years subsequent research, which also points out the link between acne and milk.

I hope you will consider dropping milk when you have read the above description of the milk causing pimples. To this I might add that when I recommend that you drop the milk, normally four out of five people return with positive results and report that they actually think it has helped.

So just try it out โ€“ try to drop the milk for 30 days and see if it reduce you skin problems.
