Hi Mads, I could use some good advice.

I have a shiny t zone and a few blemishes on my chin every once in a while, but it’s not really bad. I’ve been told by a cosmetologist that I have dry skin on my cheeks and it’s actually where I have blemishes and a lot of small bumps. My skin feels uneven. I don’t have a lot of bad blemishes, only few, but then a lot of small bumps. That’s why I’ve started using Vichy for dry/combination skin, but nothing is really happening.

Can you recommend something? I’m afraid that the skin on my cheeks will become even more dry and that might cause more blemishes?

Thank you so much for your question.

Many people think that drying out your skin and your blemishes will make them disappear. Unfortunately, that is not correct. Blemishes are caused by an over-production of bacteria in the skin and these bacteria cannot be dried out, but needs to be treated with deep-cleansing and reparing ingredients. The bacteria cannot tolerate oxygen and that is why it is a good thing to use exfoliating/peeling ingredients in your products.

If you use dehydrating ingredients on your skin, they will cause irritation, which is a major factor when it comes to breakouts and blemishes.

For your skin type I would recommend a crème that contains:

• Antioxidants (there are hundreds of great sources: green tea, red tea, vitamins, etc.)
• Moisturizing ingredients (glycerine, hyaluronic acid etc.)
• AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)/BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) = exfoliating ingredients (glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, etc.)

The only difference that there has to be between a day crème and a night créme is that your day crème should contain sunscreen that will protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays from the sun (for example, look for a physical filter like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide).
