Question: “Reddish folds in the skin”

I was really happy when I came across your web site and your knowledge about this subject. Because I have a question that has been on my mind for a long time. It is about skin. Especially on fingers.

I noticed 2 years ago that the skin along the side of my forefinger on the right hand started to develop some sort of dryness. It looks like a kind of reddish folds or cracks. I could see any similar dryness anywhere else and so I thought it would go away on its own. It didn’t. It slowly developed even more.

A year ago, I showed it to my own doctor. At the time, the dryness was covering 1/3 of the finger. He asked a couple of questions and couldn’t really give any other advice than use moisturizer for 6 months. So I bought a crème recommended by Body Shop and applied a lot every day, several times a day. An extra thick layer at night.

6 months later I could see that it hadn’t slowed down the development. Today, it’s spread to cover 2/3 of the forefinger and also 1/3 of the thumb as well.

I don’t work with chemicals or use my hands for anything strange.

Can you help me find the reason?

Answer to: “Reddish folds in the skin”

Dear Michael,

Thank you very much for your interest in my web site, experience and knowledge. I am happy to help you.

I am really sorry to hear about your skin disorder and without having seen pictures of your fingers, it sounds for me to be a mild form of psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a skin disease, which can breakout in very mild forms and to the extreme cases where it will cover most of the body. Anatomically, a too fast renewal of the skin cells, which causes the skin to become red, swollen and at the same time it can be scally and greasy.

Treating psoriasis is not easy, but I know a person who simply from leaving meat out of their diet was able to dramatically reduce psoriasis.

I have also experienced skin disorders and ugly looking mails myself, which the doctors were not able to treat. Among other things, I changed my lifestyle and diet and had a really good result.
I think you should try to consider some changes in your diet over a longer period of time, and then you should especially avoid focusing on your problem. Mental stress can definitely affect skin disorders (such as psoriasis, acne, etc.).

I wish you all the best in the future!
