Question: “Skin tonic and day créme vs. night crème”

Hey

Have been looking a long time for a web site where you could get good advice on skincare and have some myths about it rebutted or confirmed. So I’m really happy about that and I’m sure that many others are too.

I have combination skin. But I think it’s changed during this winter. My skin is less greasy and partially scaly.

I will describe the products I use, so you’ll get an idea:

In the morning I wash my face with lukewarm water and finish with cold water, because I’ve found out that it works as well as skin tonic for me. I use a day crème from jurlique for combination skin. In the evening I cleanse my skin with a cleansing gel for normal skin from REN skincare. And then I use something called silicol skin, which is like a mask that stays on for 5 minutes, before I rinse it off. And then I use the same crème as I do in the morning. And if my skin feels a little dry, I use some almond oil. Every once in a while, I get little blemishes that are like little bumps. Then I usually use Basiron, which I put on the blemish itself to keep away from making my skin too dry.

I think I use too many products, so what can I leave out or what could I use instead? Is it necessary to use both a day crème and night crème? And is there a difference between the products I use for winter and summer?

I hope you can help me with my question and thanks in advance :-)

Answer to: “Skin tonic and day créme vs. night crème”

Hi, thank you so much for the kind words! It is good to hear that my web site and knowledge has helped you :-)

Regarding your skin during the summer and winter, it is very normal for people to find that their skin is dryer during the winter. The moisture balance in your skin changes all the time, so it is definitely not uncommon. Naturally, you have to pay attention to how your skin is developing, so that you will add more moisture when it is dry – and so, you should always make sure to consider your skin and the moisture balance when you shop for new crèmes. And naturally choose crèmes that suit that moisture level.

Immediately, your skincare routine sounds good, if it works for you like that. What you have to consider, is that you use mild skincare products that will not irritate your skin – and it could worry me that your current products might be too harsh. It sounds like you need to moisturize a lot some of the time, which is a typical sign that you are over-treating it. Also, when you ask if you use too many products, you actually already know the answer, right? To be honest, I think that your skincare routine sounds a little difficult – and quite a routine to go through every morning and evening.

Therefore, I will strongly recommend you to take a look at the skincare line from Danish Skin Care – it is extremely mild for your skin and it is 100 % free from perfume, dyes and irritating ingredients. With Danish Skin Care products, your skincare routine would look like this:

Morning

Perfect Skin Face Wash: Cleansing products that will remove dirt from your skin in a mild and effective way. Wash your face (maybe in the shower), make the product foamy and massage it into your skin. Rinse with plenty of water and dab your face dry afterwards.

Perfect Skin Day Protector: A day crème filled with great vitamins and minerals that will help restoring and protecting your skin all through the day – among other things, it contains UVA/UVB sunscreen.

Evening

Perfect Skin Face Wash: Cleansing product that removes dirt and grime in a mild and effective way. Wash your face (maybe in the shower), make the product foamy and massage it into your skin. Rinse with plenty of water and dab your face dry afterwards.

Perfect Skin Power Treat: A daily exfoliation that effectively will remove dead skin cells from your skin and in that way will help smoothing out imperfections, wrinkles and remove discolouration/changes in pigmentation. And at the same time, the product has great effect for treating blemishes, blackheads and whiteheads. The product is calming for the skin. Use the product by putting a little on a cotton pad (or in your palm) and rub it across your face gently.

Perfect Skin Moisturizer: Night crème filled with great vitamins and minerals that will help restoring and protecting your skin all through the night – and really boost your skin. Just put on after using the Perfect Skin Power Treat.
