Question: “Healthy lifestyle – still acne”

Hi Mads,

I just came across your web site and I see that you give good advice to many people, and I thought you might be able to help me.

My problem is really bad acne on rather a lot of my body (back, chest and especially my face).

I have a healthy lifestyle and I never eat sweets, chocolate, chips, pizza, etc., exactly because of my problems with blemishes and blackheads.

In the past, I’ve been really good at managing it, but lately it’s gone out of control. Little whiteheads and blemishes are appearing all over my face, despite the fact that I wash it every day.

I also use a moisturizer for greasy skin and Basiron, I also use a face scrub and face masks and wash my face thoroughly before and after shaving.

I’ve heard from a friend that it should very healthy to take zinc as a supplement, it should be very good for the skin. I’ve done that for a while now, but it doesn’t seem to help. (when I didn’t take it for a while, I had a massive breakout on my back).

So eventually, I’m back to square one about what to do and I fell that I desperately need help.

Best regards,
Anders

Answer to: “Healthy lifestyle – still acne”

Dear Anders,

Thank you for your letter. I am looking forward to helping you with your questions.

You are already doing a lot to help your skin. I know the frustration myself, when nothing is working. I want to go through your routines with my experience, knowledge and views:

When you suffer from acne and blemishes, it often appears on your face, but also on your chest and back – also known as the seborrheic portion. The cause is because we excrete most of the waste products in this area of the body.

You live a healthy lifestyle, which is the best insurance that you can give yourself. But it is not a proven fact that diet has anything to do with acne, but it is obvious to me that the state of our body and skin disorders can be pushed in a negative or positive direction by our diet. My experience supports this. So keep up the healthy lifestyle, if for nothing other than your health.

It is good that you cleanse your face every day! But I would recommend you to not use a harsh cleansing product. That will only cause your sebum glands to produce even more tallow in your skin, which can cause even more acne breakouts. Use a very mild cleansing product without any irritating ingredients.

Like cleansing products can contain too many harsh and irritating ingredients, the same can be said for moisturizers and face masks, which are being marketed as removing acne. Choose a crème that gives your skin what it needs when it comes to antioxidants, vitamins and exfoliating ingredients.

You should completely avoid using face scrubs when you suffer from acne. They are simply too harsh for the skin and will only provoke and irritate your skin.

Zinc is a really great mineral for your skin, so you can certainly continue taking extra zinc to help your skin.

To avoid repeating myself, I would recommend you to read my cure for acne, where you will receive advice and guidance in choosing skincare products, skincare routines, etc. Learn how to solve acne – read here

I wish you the very best skin and a successful future.
