The causes for discolored teeth

There are many reasons for discolored teeth, but the most frequent (and the easiest to prevent) is eating or drinking foods with a high level of color pigmentation. Some of these foods are coffee, tea, red wine, and dark berries.

To prevent or lessen permanent discoloration of your teeth, it is a good idea to drink water or brush your teeth after consuming these foods.

Of course we all know that smoking is unhealthy, but it is also a major contributor to discolored or yellow teeth.

The root of your tooth is yellow, and unfortunately for some, that can show through the enamel of your teeth. Since this is genetically determined, it is unfortunately not possible for those people to whiten their teeth.

Teeth whitening

To keep your mouth healthy, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day. This will clean away anything coating their surface.

Proper teeth whitening requires a chemical bleaching ingredient (hydrogen peroxide). You can have this type of whitening done by your dentist or you can do it at home.

Teeth whitening by your dentist is not the least expensive solution, but because it is done under professional supervision, it can be worth every penny.

If you want to do it yourself, you can whiten your teeth at home. It will give you the same results that your dentist provide, although it will take slightly longer.

“At-home” teeth whitening normally requires teeth whitening strips that are pasted onto your teeth, or a teeth-whitening appliance that fits over your teeth.
