I fall under the category “Desperate”. Desperate as in – I’ve had skin problems for as long as I can remember and I’ve been eager for help and tools.
I’ve changed my diet, the coke has been replaced with water – I’ve gone through prolonged and regular treatments by a cosmetologist. I’ve tried a crème that my doctor gave me. I exclusively use products from Ole Henriksen and the make-up I used before have been changed for mineral make-up, which I don’t even use that often.
My skin has improved, but not enough. I can feel that my problem has had big, psychological effects for me – if I’m having a bad period I will say no to social events and I feel bad going to work, and I gave up dance classes because my make-up would disappear when I would be sweating and the shame would appear instead. On top of that, I go tanning to keep my skin “in check”, a solution that works – temporarily – but also a solution that I’m ashamed about.
I’ve now received a referral from my doctor to see a dermatologist – on August 18th. I’m waiting anxiously – in the meantime I’ve agreed to fill my body with hormones from birth control pills, which should also be helping with my problem. What the dermatologist can recommend for me is probably “Rotalin” (I think that’s what my doctor called it) – something that helps with acne – but also something that will make the skin thin and more sensitive.
While I’m waiting, I’m searching the web for laser treatments – or anything…
As you can see, there are thousands of options for a solution – but I’m looking for one that works – one that is permanent! I was hoping you had a bid on what it might be. I don’t feel good about filling my body with medicine – which might not work. I’m 23 now – the teenage skin SHOULD have disappeared!

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your troubles. I know myself how big the market of the skincare industry is and how stressful it can be to have a skin disorder. But I will point out that you should never let your skin disorder destroy your lust for life and your energy. You have every opportunity to experience and enjoy it every day, a “little” acne should not take that away from you.
With that being said, I would recommend you the following routines (you might know some of them already):

Exercise and well-being
Exercise a couple of times a week, preferably a little bit every day, where you get your pulse racing and sweat a little. This will boost your circulation and the excretion of waste products in your body.
Last but not least, I wold recommend you the most difficult routine of them all – simply to not focus as much on your skin disorder. I know that it is difficult, but if you keep a negative focus on your disorder and so think negatively about yourself, you will stress your body in a negative way. Smile at yourself and be happy to be the fantastic person that I believe you are.
Acne cure from the dermatologist – Roaccutan
Unfortunately, some acne and other skin disorders are so difficult to treat that some people choose a strong vitamin A cure from the dermatologist. The cure, also called Roaccutan, comes in pill form, and you take the pills during the winter because then the skin becomes thin and more sensitive. There can be some different side effects from the cure, but most people are happy with the results. But I will mention, that I know of people who have been taking Roaccutan for months without any form of improvement with their acne.
Acne and sun, solarium and sunbathing
Your use of sun to cover your skin scares me, but I myself have previously used this method. After the solarium or just simply being in the sun, the skin gets a little glow and color, which makes one’s skin problems seem minor. But do not be deceived here. It is an optical illusion, which only destroys the skin, creates premature aging and, at worst, skin cancer.
In conclusion, I would like to point out that acne and skin disorders in general does not belong to the teenage years. More and more people suffer from acne in both their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. in addition it must be said – even adult or teen – acne is acne. Perhaps you call it adult acne, teen acne or something else – but the treatment is exactly the same!
